What a day for BLV SONIX Cricket, and Community Club Inclusion in Tasmania!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the mighty Mowbray Cricket Club for the historic launch of the Tasmanian Inclusion Club Cup (TICC) and the first ever game of BLV SONIX Cricket.

In an unforgettable match, the Blind Cricket Tasmania (BCT) Tigers took on a senior squad and northern T20 champions from Mowbray Eagles CC, marking the first time many blind and low vision (BLV) players have competed against a mainstream cricket side. It was a powerful moment for inclusive sport in Tasmania.

The match also introduced BLV SONIX Cricket – a dynamic, high-energy format designed specifically for BLV players, blending the structure of indoor cricket with the excitement and tempo of T20 – and more!

With 8-a-side teams, 16 overs plus power plays, and Mowbray players wearing vision-impairment simulation glasses, the game created a truly level playing field, equal opportunity to contribute, and an incredible spectacle for players and spectators alike.

The day truly showcased what can happen when clubs embrace inclusion. The skill, spirit and competitiveness on display proved that BLV SONIX Cricket is exciting, competitive and inspiring to play and watch!

Massive thanks to Mowbray Cricket Club for enthusiastically embracing the challenge, hosting the game, and setting a powerful example for community sport. You were too good this time, but we’ll be back next year to hopefully win the Cup back!

Also, a special thank you to Everyday Independence for their leadership and support in helping bring this event to life.

So here’s to many more Tas Inclusion Club Cup games against mainstream community clubs, and continuing to grow blind and low vision cricket across Tasmania!

👏 Thank you to the players, volunteers, supporters and families who made the day so special.

Drop us a line if you’d like to get involved.
